Few events in the history of Dew Days can live up to the hype of the bed races, according to Maribeth Vanderbeck, organizer for Farmington’s summer festival Dew Days.
In its 26th year, the popular bed races will be back in full force. The race is set for 7 p.m. Friday, June 26 on Second Street at the Dakota County Fairgrounds.
Participation is open to businesses, organizations and neighborhood
teams for a tax-deductible entry fee of $25 and proceeds will benefit
the Farmington Food Shelf.
In the spirit of the race, teams are encouraged to wear costumes
distinguishing themselves from other teams and racers are also invited
to make an appearance in the Grand Day Parade at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 28.
“This unique event is a fun and entertaining activity for people of all
ages and is a great promoter of team spirit among employees, members of
sponsoring merchants and organizations,” raved event chairs JJ Akin and
Nick Dahlke. “It’s also a great way to raise funds to support local
charities.”
The race will include an obstacle course as well as a few unexpected surprises.
Teams can place in the Overall Champions or Best Costumed team categories.
Winners in the Overall Champions category will receive first-place
medals and a $50 cash award. Ribbons will also be given to second- and
third-place teams. Winners in the Best Costumed Team category will
receive a $25 cash award.
Registration deadline is June 21.
