A 59-year-old Minneapolis man was charged May 27 with vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal car crash on June 7, 2008, in Apple Valley that killed Darah Robertson, 18, of Farmington.

Bruce Vaughn Moore is accused of having a toxic level of anti-anxiety prescription drugs when he allegedly ran his car through a red light and struck Robertson’s southbound car, killing her instantly at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and County Road 42.

Moore faces misdemeanor charges – fourth-degree driving while impaired and careless driving – in connection with the accident that also injured a third driver whose vehicle was struck by Robertson’s.

The charges come nearly a year after the crash because of the time it took to complete toxicology reports and accident reconstruction. Moore is scheduled to appear in court June 22.

Officers allegedly found several prescription medications in Moore’s car and confirmed he did not have a prescription for the anti-anxiety drug alprazolam, a generic form of Xanax.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension reported toxic levels of the anti-anxiety drug in his system the night of the crash.

During an interview with police, Moore said he missed a turn because he has bad night vision and he did not remember the street signal lights.

Officers reported a few hours after the crash that Moore was slurring his words and appeared to be disoriented.             Officers were not able to detect any smell of alcohol, according to the criminal complaint. Blood tests confirmed Moore was not under the influence of alcohol or street drugs.

Robertson, a 2007 graduate of Farmington High School, worked at Broadway Pizza in Apple Valley and was taking a semester off from Inver Hills Community College to travel with friends.

Known by her close friends as someone who would always listen and help out, Robertson was close to her family and enjoyed the outdoors, photography and motor sports.
