An Eagan woman was killed Nov. 9 after being struck by a car while crossing the street in St. Paul.
Alexandria Jane Mardell, 20, was attempting to cross West 7th Street around 7:19 p.m. when she was struck by a westbound car, according to the St. Paul Police Department.
Mardell was apparently engaged in conversation with friends as she attempted to cross the street, said Sgt. Paul Schnell, public information officer with the St. Paul Police Department.
The friends she was talking to saw the car coming and stopped, he said, but Mardell seemed to be unaware of oncoming traffic.
She was not crossing at a crosswalk, Schnell said, but rather stepped out into the street from behind a parked car.
Mardell was transported to Regions Hospital by St. Paul Fire paramedics with serious injuries. She died overnight as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
The vehicle that struck Mardell was driven by a 33-year-old woman, also from Eagan.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said, and the driver of the car was not cited at the scene.
“The accident is still under investigation, but we don’t anticipate any charges at this point in time,” Schnell said.
