Apple Valley man accused of selling stolen items on Craigslist

by Jessica Harper Thisweek Newspapers An Apple Valley man is facing burglary charges for allegedly selling stolen items on Craigslist, a classified-ad Web site. Dustin Jeffrey Arthur Heichert was charged Oct. 16 with first-degree burglary and second-degree burglary for allegedly stealing items from an Apple Valley garage and selling them on the Web site. According to the criminal complaint, Heichert stole two mountain bikes, a set of golf clubs and a tent from the garage of an Apple Valley home sometime between 10 p.m. June 23 and 3 a.m. June 24. On the morning of June 24, the homeowner noticed some other items sitting on his lawn, while the bikes, golf clubs and tent were gone, and called Apple Valley Police. Later that day, the homeowner saw one of the stolen bicycles on Craigslist, and again called police. Officers traced the advertisement to Heichert’s home, where they found the golf clubs, the tent and one of the mountain bikes while carrying out a search warrant,  according to the criminal complaint. Police located the other bicycle at a St. Paul home. In an interview with police, Heichert allegedly said he drank a “substantial amount” of alcohol and was driving around in his mother’s car on the night of the alleged burglary. He noticed the garage had its lights on and decided to go in through an unlocked door, the complaint said. Heichert told police he decided to take the tent because he was going camping.
