The Eagan 9-10th grade lacrosse team finished its season perfect with a 14-0 record and won the 9-10th grade state championship against Eden Prairie and Irondale on June 13
Eagan had enough players this year to form two teams. The coaching
staff split the talent evenly between the two teams to
ensure both teams would have a successful season. Eagan Green team 1
went 9-1-1 during the regular season and made it to the state
quarterfinals before losing to Mahtomedi 8-3.
Eagan Blue team 2 sought to avenge the lose of the Green team in one of the two semi-final games against Mahtomedi. Eagan Blue got their revenge with a 15-2 win over Mahtomedi on June 4. In the other semi-final game, Burnsville lost to Eden Prairie 14-13 to set up the Eagan 2 against Eden Prairie championship game Saturday, 13 June.
Eagan’s Eric Woodcock opened the scoring 5:52 into the first quarter. Connor Simpson and Connor McGovern also added goals to put Eagan up 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. Eden Prairie came back early in the second quarter with two quick goals to close the gap to one. But Eagan came roaring back with goals from Woodcock, Simpson and Drew Davis to stake the Wildcats to a 6-2 halftime lead.
Eden Prairie came out firing at the start of the second half but Wildcat goalie Jacob Westrum came up big making several point blank saves during an Eden Prairie man-up situation. After that the Eagan defense (Zach Block, Nick Holmin and Mitch Chrastil) shutdown the Eden Prairie's offense and Cullin Willox and Andy Hughes added goals to make the final score 8-3. Additionally, Wildcat’s Willox and Woodcock dominated the faceoff battles winning 10 of 14 faceoffs.
