John Gessner has been Thisweek Newspapers' Burnsville editor since 1988. He currently serves as Thisweek Newspapers' assistant managing editor in addition to his role as Burnsville editor. He has also been a reporter for the Washington County Bulletin in Cottage Grove and the Redwood Gazette in Redwood Falls. He is a graduate of Simley High School and the University of Minnesota, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and wrote about music for the Minnesota Daily's Arts and Entertainment section and other Twin Cities publications. His stories have also appeared in the Highland Villager newspaper in St. Paul. During his tenure at Thisweek Newspapers, Gessner has won journalism awards from the Minnesota Newspaper Association and ECM Publishers Inc., which sponsors an awards program for its member newspapers. Gessner writes news and features in the city of Burnsville and covers the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District. He is a member of the ECM Publishers Editorial Board. |
