Devin Delaney of the Burnsville Pee Wee hockey team made this goal during the Dodge County Shoot Out Tournament. The goal was shown on local TV news shows and has received many views on YouTube and Facebook.

The Dakota County Tribune Business Weekly and Dakota County Technical College Foundation will turn the spotlight on eleven 2012 Exceptional Businesswomen Award winners during a breakfast ceremony Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Best Western Premier Nicollet Inn in Burnsville.

The award ceremony will include guest speaker Beth Krehbiel, president of Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville and a 2010 Exceptional Businesswoman Award winner, a served breakfast and a chance to mingle with past and present Exceptional Businesswomen.

Citizen academy education includes handcuffs

An eight-week law enforcement course for citizens is being offered by the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office.

The new “citizen academy” allows residents to learn about issues facing law enforcement locally and helps build insight into the philosophy and operations of the department.

Topics to be covered include history of the sheriff’s office, use of force, traffic stops and searching and handcuffing procedures.

Participants will also learn about arrest laws, the criminal charging and judicial process, a Taser demonstration, crime scene processing and Internet crime.

An overview of the Dakota County Jail is included and information will be shared about the county’s Specials Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) Team.

The academy is held Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. from March 1 to April 19.

360 Communities board removes longtime president, CEO

The board chair of Dakota County nonprofit 360 Communities was tight-lipped Tuesday about the ouster of Mary Ajax, the agency’s longtime president and CEO.

But a community observer suggested Ajax’s creation of a staff “hierarchy” at 360 cost her some goodwill among supporters of the 40-year-old agency.

The board acted to “change the organization’s leadership” effective Dec. 16, Chair Pete Diessner said Tuesday. (more…)
