Gov. Tim Pawlenty has appointed Maj. Gen. Richard C. Nash as the new head of the Minnesota National Guard.

Nash will step from his current post as commander of the 34th Infantry “Red Bull” Division in Rosemount will lead the National Guard and the State Department of Military Affairs.

He replaces Maj. Gen. Larry Shellito who announced his retirement in June. (more…)

Contractor will get $100,000 bonus for quick work

The heavy construction is over, all lanes are reopened and the drive is now smooth as glass.

This summer’s reconstruction of Burnsville Parkway came at an attractive price to taxpayers, with a $100,000 bonus going to the contractor for finishing the job early. Smooth blacktop replaced crumbling concrete pavement.

“It was in terrible condition,” said Ryan Peterson, Burnsville’s assistant city engineer. (more…)


Enebakwith state figure skating title

Emma Enebak, a fifth grader at All Saints Catholic school in Lakeville, became the 2011 preliminary state figure skating champion.

She competed again 29 girls ages 12 and under from the entire state to win the championship by unanimous vote at the Eagan Civic Center.

The Twin City Figure Skating Association hosted the 2011 Minnesota State Figure Skating Championships, August 20-22. This competition is sponsored by the Twin City Figure Skating Association, hosted by the Eagan Ice Crystal FSC and conducted in the same manner as the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Upper Great Lakes Regional Competition.


Lake Marion hosts Dog Days Of Summer Fishing Extravaganza

The Minnesota Pole Benders hosted the 17th Annual Dog Days of Summer Fishing Extravaganza on Lake Marion in Lakeville, on August 19.

Finishing in first place with 63 points was the team of Gary Schenstad of Burnsville and David Machaj, Lakeville. Schenstad caught three fish (13 inches, 14”, and 17”) at three totally different spots on the lake.  Schenstad used a black standard sized scum frog.

“All the fish were caught right up on the bank in six inches of water,” Schenstad  said. “I think they were forced up into shallow water because of the dirty water.”
