Storm Crash State Meet for fifth Place Finish, Multiple State Champs

An amazing Spring/Summer swim session was capped off by the South Metro Storm swimmers vaulting to a fifth place overall finish at the Minnesota Swim Championships the weekend of July 29 – August 1 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. There were 68 teams participating in the event, with the Storm easily crushing their previous 11th place team high finish. Head coach Phil Smith lauded his kids, “What an amazing accomplishment by a group of kids that came together and started to believe in their potential. I could not be more proud of the kids. We witnessed amazing individual and team performances.”

The Storm had four individual event State Champions at the meet, all whom placed in the Top three or above in their age group for individual points:

Girls Age 8 & Under
Regan Smith: 50 Butterfly
Finished 3rd overall – Overall Individual Points for Age Group
Boys Age 8 & Under
Ryan Husband: 50 and 100 Freestyle & 50 Butterfly
Finished 1st overall – Overall Individual Points for Age Group
Girls Ages 11-12
Brianna Alexander: 200 Freestyle and 200 Breaststroke
Finished 2nd overall – Overall Individual Points for Age Group

Marshall Heskin: 50 Butterfly (State Champion)
Finished 3rd overall – Overall Individual Points for Age Group
