Filing for City Council seats runs Aug. 3-17

The filing period runs Aug. 3-17 for Apple Valley City Council seats up for election this November.

Apple Valley voters will choose a mayor and two other City Council seats in the November election. Those positions are currently held by Mayor Mary Hamann-Roland and council members John Bergman and Sharon LaComb.

Terms on the five-member City Council are for four years.

Unlike in neighboring cities such as Rosemount, Burnsville and Eagan where filing for city offices closed June 1, Apple Valley candidates file later in the summer because there is no primary election for city offices.

Filing information for those interested in running for office can be found on the county’s website, www.co.dakota.mn.us, under “Voting & Elections,” and also on the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website, www.sos.state.mn.us.
