Lakeville event aims to showcase the area’s culinary delights

As one of five senses, taste will take center palette Thursday, May 15, at the Lakeville Area Arts Center.
While the Taste of Lakeville will fulfill that primary sense, the others won’t be left uninspired.
Tempting wine bouquets, visual culinary delights, the vibrant sound of
music, and even “touch” will swing into action as playing video golf
could ace one visitor a big prize.
The sixth annual Lakeville Rotary Club fundraiser will burst forth from
the arts center site with 36 vendors satisfying taste buds of all
stripes with a menu that reads like a globe.

After extensive rehab following a football injury to his knee last
fall, Brian Kiedrowski returned to the track this spring with a goal to
be back to 100-percent by the start of the track season.
The senior captain showed how his hardwork and determination during the
winter paid off by posting winning times of 11.59 seconds in the 100
meter dash and 23.08 seconds in the 200 dash at last month’s meet at
Lakeville South.
“(He) rehabbed during the off season in the weight room and physical
therapy,” said Blaze boys track headcoach Jeff Shelden. “The times were
F.A.T. and run on a 40 degree day. I am very pleased and look forward
to even better things as he continues to gain strength and endurance.” ...read more .

A measure to restrict night-time driving privileges and the number of
teenagers in a car for new teen drivers is enroute to becoming a
necessary law.
The House and Senate have passed similar measures and Gov. Tim Pawlenty has said he will sign it.
This bipartisan measure is important because car crashes particularly
at night are the leading cause of teen deaths in Minnesota. Each year
80 teenagers die in collisions and 6,000 are injured. One of every six
fatal crashes and one of every four injury crashes involve drivers
under 19 years of age.

Our house was dark, and it should not have been. I wondered what the
problem was. For the last week in spring, 1985, I’m been meeting with
state governors and their staffs about key education problems and
solutions. It was heady stuff. Now, I was home, eager to see my wife
and our three young children.
My wife, who had been and still is a teacher, was glad to see me. “The
power is off, the kids have been throwing up and I’m exhausted.” So the
heady policy talk of school reform faded for a few days, as I helped
our children regain their health, and my wife slept a lot, regaining
her strength. ...read more .

I just don’t see the point.
I mean, I know we’re talking about swords here, but kicking two kids out of school for the rest of the year for purchasing a couple of souvenir swords on a choir trip in England seems like overkill.
The District 196 School Board can’t elaborate publicly on the
expulsions, but their hands aren’t exactly tied on the matter. They
could have chosen to make their expulsion decision based on common
sense and a little compassionate leniency instead of following the
district’s policy so strictly. Read more »

On my way to a town meeting Tuesday night at Lakeville City Hall, I
stopped at the Cenex station and filled up my Taurus. It cost me $47.
At the meeting, Lakeville City Administrator Steve Mielke disclosed
that for about $36 in property taxes on my Lakeville condo and similar
“average-priced homes” in the community, the Metropolitan Council was
willing to provide two transit stations and bus service along I-35 and
Cedar Avenue to downtown Minneapolis. ....read more of Larry's blog .
